Friday Conditions– take the afternoon off and SKI

It’s another great ski day– at 8am it is 25 degrees. We have 20km tracked for classic and skate… including Maple Loop and Spruce Run.

There is nothing like an early morning ski– I headed out on the trail at 7:15 am today with classic skis and Extra Blue– I started with World Cup and skied the first section with Russ, one of the lift attendants. He was in search of POWDER on the East side of the mtn in the Cotton Brook Watershed and I was scouting the tracks. And on a good classic day there is nothing better than Maple Loop and Spruce Run. On Maple I skied hard- cutting all the corners. I noticed as I came through the Maple Loop/Telemark fresh Moose Tracks. The snow was packed hard enough Spruce Run to slide and step-turn the corners. The classic tracks on Broadway were perfect and I was able to kick all the way up- no problem. On the trails, Liz

I stopped at the top of Broadway to catch my breath and take a photo of my skis in the classic tracks.

Backcountry reports are good. Most of the up-trails have been tracked, so getting into the higher elevation trails is easier. We have heard from some skiers that there is a crust layer 4-6″ down under powder. But don’t be deterred by this — the skiing is AMAZING. We have had 12-18″ of new snow this week!!

Today is Ski and Ride with the Point at Bolton Valley— this gives some great deals on Alpine skiing with a Ski and Ride Pin— leave work early and get up here.
